Super Size Me
Just saw the movie Super Size Me, a documentary by Morgan Spurlock. The movie chronicles Morgan's experiment to eat food from McDonald's every day for 30 days. The film also explores the horror of school lunch programs, declining health and physical education classes, food addictions and the extreme measures people take to lose weight and regain their health.
The results of Morgan's experiment were shocking, even to his doctors. In 30 days, he gained over 20 pounds, significantly raised his cholesterol and put his liver at such risk that his doctors warned him to stop the diet immediately. Nevertheless, he pressed on, and also became depressed, fatigued and almost impotent.
I don't remember the last time I left a theater so infuriated. Some of the worst scenes were the school lunchrooms, where students could choose a lunch consisting of nothing but fried food or sugars. A typical meal was a big plate of fries and a Coke.
See this movie. I think tonight was the last chance to see it at a theater in Nashville, so be sure to see it when it is released to DVD.
To read about the movie, see the official Super Size Me website or read Morgan Spurlock's blog.
